So, I have a class this quarter that I really dislike. It is called Global Citizenship and it has to be one of the most worthless and boring class I have ever been in. I suppose what the class itself is about is not all that worthless but, it seems to me that they are trying to make a class out of something that cannot be made into class.
This course is supposed to be all about how to make a better community. I agree that that concept is in itself important but, there is nothing that can really be done in a class. People are who people are and I do not see how a class is going to change anything. The service learning project is a good idea though. It gets people out into the community to help others and do good things for a certain community but, it only lasts for as long as the class goes. The only reason most people are even doing it is because this course is forced on them and they do not want to fail it so, they half heartedly trudge through the class and hope for the best.
Every other class I have is meant to build up my skills to do a better job in my career of choice. I just do not see how this one does anything for that goal. It does not teach me anything about how to do my job better. It does not give me any kind of work skills. It just teaches me how to be a better citizen, which is kind of offending to me because, I feel being a soldier and a veteran that served a year in a Iraq qualifies me as a pretty decent citizen.
All in all I think that MSB could have OFFERED the class and let people take it on their own rather than forcing us to take a class that we do not necessarily need.
That is my random rant for the day. More is sure to follow….
